dubious, suspicious

Of uncertain identity and suspicious; also, of doubtful truth.

駅前で胡乱な儲け話を持ちかけられた。

Origin

U and ron are the tōon readings of 胡 and 乱. Because the word appears in the Shōbōgenzō and in the poetry and prose of Gozan monks, it is thought to have come in through Zen Buddhism. In China it meant disorderly, but in Japan the sense of doubtful developed and later became the main one.
