Origin

In Buddhism it refers to the highest heaven of the three realms of existence (u), the world of delusion. Views differ on which heaven this is: one theory says Hisō-hihisō-ten (非想非非想天), the top of the formless realm, and another says Shikikukyō-ten (色究竟天), the top of the form realm. From the idea of climbing all the way to that summit, it came to describe the height of triumph or being so absorbed that one forgets oneself.
