Meaning

quite willing to

Glad to do something; ready to help.

Example

条件次第では、幹事を引き受けるのも吝かでない。

Depending on the terms, I'd be willing to take on organizing the party.

Origin

Older Japanese had yafusashi and yafusagaru, meaning to be grudging, and adding the suffix ka to their stem yafusa produced yabusaka. The original sense was stingy or hesitant, so its negative means doing something without holding back. In the Agency for Cultural Affairs survey for fiscal Heisei 25 (2013), 33.8% chose the original "do it gladly" and 43.7% chose "do it reluctantly."
